Route story

Bowen and Airlie Beach

Saturday was a full sightseeing ride north from Mackay through roads I had never travelled before. The route followed Queensland’s beautiful tropical coastline, with the scenery making the 425-kilometre day one of the standout rides of the rally.

We stopped at the Big Mango near Bowen for a H.O.G. ABCs photograph before having coffee along the Bowen shoreline. After visiting one of Bowen’s lookouts, we continued to Airlie Beach for lunch at the pub before returning to Mackay.

It was a long day on the bike, but the unfamiliar roads, tropical coastline and stops around Bowen and Airlie Beach made it well worth the distance.
