A country music weekend in Toowoomba

When Sunburnt Country announced its first festival in Toowoomba, Zoe was immediately interested. Brad Cox and Jason Aldean were the two artists she most wanted to see, and as someone who has seen Brad Cox perform several times over the years, I was more than happy to make a weekend of it.

We loaded up the Navara and headed for Toowoomba on Friday, staying at the Applegum Inn just up the road from the venue before spending Saturday at the festival. With perfect weather, a strong lineup and a relaxed atmosphere, it turned into a great father-and-daughter weekend centred around live country music.

The lineup featured Jason Aldean, Brad Cox, Corey Kent, Taylor Moss and Dear Tommie, while Y.O.G.A. kept the crowd entertained between the main performances. For both Zoe and me, Brad Cox was the standout act of the day. Jason Aldean also lived up to expectations and gave the festival a proper headline finish.

One of the best parts of the weekend was simply spending the day together, relaxing in our chairs, enjoying the music and taking in the atmosphere. There was no complicated itinerary or packed schedule — just good music, good weather and quality time together.

On Sunday, before heading home, we spent some time shopping around Toowoomba, including Zoe picking up some tour shirts, before making the drive back to Brisbane.

Sometimes the best trips do not need a complicated itinerary. A short drive to Toowoomba, great weather, live music and a weekend spent with Zoe was all this one needed.
