Event report

A country festival close to home

Lasso was simply another country music festival to try, and having it at Distillery Road Market in Eagleby made it an easy night out close to home. I headed along with friends and arrived at about 4:30 pm while Briana Dinsdale was playing.

We settled in for dinner with Briana and then Tyla Rodrigues providing the live soundtrack. It was a relaxed way to ease into the festival before moving closer to the stage for the rest of the evening.

Austin Mackay was next on my list, and the easygoing atmosphere around the venue was already becoming one of the best parts of the night. The performers were approachable, and several of them spent time mingling with the crowd and watching the other artists. Getting a quick photo with Austin added to that personal feel.

The Wet Whistles were one of the highlights again. It was my third time seeing them play in 2026, and they remain a band I am always happy to catch live. I am already looking forward to seeing them again in November when they support Wade Forster.

Drake Milligan was the headline highlight and brought the festival home strongly. Special guest Mack Geiger joined him for a few songs, giving the closing set an extra moment that stood out.

I stayed until the end, and the strongest memory was the combination of the indoor venue, the friendly crowd and artists who felt part of the festival rather than separated from it. Lasso delivered exactly what I wanted from a local country music night.
